Making Sense Of The New Wireless Home Security Systems?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

With all of the different home security system services out there, it can be hard to tell if you should have a wireless home security system, hardwired system, or a gadget that has been newly placed on the market. The goal is to stay one step ahead of any potential predators while keeping an affordable means of home security and choosing from masses of options. Recently, the best in home security has seemed to be the wireless home security system. Protecting your home from potential harm is a priority, but when you purchase a wireless home security system, you should know that there is more to the system than just the name.

The wireless home security system is primarily chosen because of its neat appearance and lack of wires. It is convenient to every abode in every situation. However, which system you choose will depend on how much security you need and what your budget entails. The best in home security wireless systems, and the most frequently used are the wireless security cameras, the wireless alarms, and the wireless motion detector systems.

The wireless cameras are a small and practical way to monitor your home security without an alarm. The cameras can be used for surveillance and the leaders in home security typically make them such as Ademco, DSC, and GE. They can be used to monitor children while playing as well as catching a common thief. These cameras have the option to record so that you may check the tapes later using a simple VCR or they can broadcast live. The wireless security cameras are generally considered the best in home security and when they are combined with other wireless devices, they are found to be almost foolproof.

Some people are more visual than others, which is why a wireless alarm system is the most popular device for protection today. The idea is that if you can set the keypad yourself you will feel like your home is more secure. Although many people are now moving away from the home alarm systems because of their tendency to give off false alarms. The inconvenience usually stems from heightened sensitivity in the internal computer systems and the outside weather such as lightning. However, if you are in the market for a wireless alarm, try Visonex Powermax, found at Office Depot and online home security stores. The Powermax comes in an all-inclusive package with the added feature of voice activation.

The wireless motion detector system is also a common form of home security systems. The motion detectors are almost always installed into new homes, and they perform by providing a light when there is a motion that is detected. Other wireless systems may have an alarm that is attached to the motion detector, but they are harder to find. If you have other devices that are wireless that you want to use in conjunction with the motion detector such as the wireless security camera, you can move and install all of the wireless components together. If you have a hardwired system, the motion detectors do come in the wired form as well. Home security prices will vary if you go outside an already existing system.

A wireless home security system is a convenient choice because of its mobility and easy installation. There is no need to be concerned about lingering wires or expensive construction. Wireless systems do make up an entire group of elements that come together in order to create the whole. If what you are looking for is a home monitoring security system, you may not need the other devices to make sure that you feel safe in your home. Try to compile all of the information that you can in regard to the different devices that wireless has to offer so that you can make a more comprehensive choice when it comes to your home protection.

Learn the essential keys to choosing a home security system that\’s right for you. The new technology is amazingly powerful and give the end user new control that has to be seen to be appreciated. And, the best part, it\’s very affordable. Often less than traditional providers. To receive your free report visit the home security system website and learn about the new choices available in the market.

Is Your Neighborhood Safe?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

The news is filled with stories of child abduction. But you are probably thinking to yourself, that could never happen to my child. Being educated and aware of registered sex offenders in your area could help you protect your children.

I was outside playing with my 17 month old daughter, in our front yard. As we were playing, an older gentleman was walking down the street in front of our house. Keep in mind I live in a small rural area with a population of less than 500. I have seen this same man walk down our street several times in the 2 years that we have lived in this neighborhood. The gentlemen, while walking by, asks me \”Do you ever take her to the park?\” Trying to be polite I reply \”Yes, she loves the slide!\”

The following day, as I am loading my daughter into the car, I see the same gentleman walking past our house, on the road next to our driveway. We live on a corner lot and in the 2 years of living in this neighborhood I have never seen him walk this path. Again he strikes up a conversation with me. I didn\’t think much about it at the time. I just thought he was a bit odd.

On another occasion, my husband and I took our daughter to the park, located across the street from our home. It was a weekend and several other kids were playing there also. I saw an older beater of a car pull in to the park. At the same time, two young girls were walking by and I heard them say \”Come on lets go this way!\” And they ran off away from the car that had just pulled in. That caught my attention, so I was watching the driver of that car to see what he was up to. He had big bushy brown hair and a bushy beard. A hard face to forget. He turned his car around and left the park soon after he had pulled in. Again, it was a strange occurrence but I didn\’t think much more of it.

The same week, there was an amber alert within 50 miles of our area. A 2 year old was abducted by her father. A few days later the amber alert was cancelled. Curiosity drove me to the amber alert website. While there, I found a link to search for sexual offenders in our area.

As I was searching, I found three registered sex offenders in our small little town. Among those 3 offenders was the first gentlemen I spoke of, that walks past our house everyday. I was shocked! I continued my search and within 10 miles from our home there are 10 registered sex offenders. Within 20 miles there are 54 registered sex offenders. A picture of one of the men on the list resembled the man driving the beat up car in the park. A search within 40 miles of our home revealed 98 registered sex offenders.

This is a scary thought. If there are that many registered sex offenders in the vicinity, how many are out there that haven\’t been caught?

It pays to be alert. Even if you live in a small rural area, there are child predators out there. Stay educated and know who is lurking around your neighborhood. Your child\’s life depends on it. So visit the sex offender registry and be informed of predators living near you!

Secure Your Home - Home Security Systems

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

According to the FBI, homes without security systems are 2.7 times more likely to be targeted by a burglar. There are a number of options for the average homeowner to consider that can reduce the chances of a burglary. Read these tips and suggestions on how to secure your home to help reduce your chances of a break-in. The steps are quite simple but can provide peace of mind, additional security and perhaps save you from theft.

Homes without a home security/alarm system have a significantly higher break-in rate, so invest in an alarm system to protect your home and use it. Make sure your house alarm is connected to the police and a central station to ensure someone will respond. Have a back-up cellular connection in case your phone service is disrupted.
\r If moving into a house with an old alarm system, contact the provider to inquire about a system upgrade.
\r Consider a security system equipped with motion detectors. Certain alarm systems allow your home to have separate zones so specific areas can always stay armed. In addition, a panic button can be installed for added protection.
\r If you have an alarm system, make sure all your windows either have contacts on them or you have glass-break sensors in the rooms.
\r A thief may try to dismantle your alarm system, so make sure the system\’s central panel is in a secure spot. In addition, since construction or wildlife can disrupt outside wiring, have your system tested annually.
\r As a back-up alarm, a barking dog (even small dogs) will deter most burglars. The noise draws attention, which is the last thing burglars want.
\r Adding reflective numbers outside on the front of your home will make it easy for police and ambulances to find your house in case of emergency.

Home Security Surveys

Contact your local law enforcement agency for a free \”walk through\” of your property. The purpose is to identify all potential trouble spots and determine what steps can be implemented to improve the overall security of your property.
\r Consider organizing a \”block party\” and have the police \”sweep\” your entire block. Sometimes off-duty police officers will do this kind of work for a nominal fee.

The Illusion of Security - Protect Your Home or Business the Right Way

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

What would it take to make you feel safe and secure? A security alarm system? A surveillance camera? There are various products designed to do just that, make you feel safe. Some work, some don\’t, and some appear to work even if they are not actually functional. But that is part of the illusion of security. If it appears to be protected, or looks like too much trouble, a potential criminal may pass it by and look for an easier target.

Self defense 101. Look alert and project a confident demeanor. Appear to be a harder target and a lesser assailant may look to prey elsewhere. Security 101. Have a visible keypad or security camera prominently displayed with a flashing red LED light and a would be robber may think twice about tangling with the nuisance of a security alarm. As long as no one knows that the security devices are fake, everything is fine. Right?

There are many types of deceptive security devices and fake security cameras that give the impression of a fully functional system. They are cheaper to buy, easier to install and have almost zero maintenance. As long as they look realistic enough, they may work, most of the time. Until someone makes a mistake, and lets the cat out of the bag. Just like a magician that ends up exposing his secret to the audience. The illusion is over. Let me explain two real world examples of how a good idea became a poor security practice. First, we have a small convenience store in a not-so-wonderful neighborhood. The owner had a few instances of vandalism and theft and decided to do something about it. He found that it would be much cheaper to buy a fake security camera instead of a full video surveillance and recording system. He purchased a realistic looking camera that would screw mount to the ceiling and required a 9-volt battery to power the red LED light to complete the illusion of a fully functional system.

Problem is, he made one grave mistake. Lured by the low price, he decided the more cameras he purchased, the more secure his store would appear. Right? Wrong. When he installed 20 fake security cameras into his small convenience store, the \”system\” screamed fake, and was proven to be, as the over abundance of flashing cameras failed to deter troublemakers from causing the same havoc as before.

Another well-intentioned, but poorly carried out example is another local business. This one was a small, but lucrative medical practice that could have easily afforded a complete security system. Which is what it looked like they had… until…

So I ended up with an 8:30 am appointment, which was when they opened up for the day. I showed up at 8:15 am, assuming they would be there earlier then my scheduled appointment time. I was wrong, the door was still locked and no one was there. I could see their security keypad just inside the locked door, fully equipped with an LED. 5 minutes later another 8:30 am patient arrived early, again to the locked door.

8:35 rolls around and the receptionist finally arrives and apologizes for running late. As soon as she unlocks the door, the alarm system starts its warning beep sequence, giving you the standard 30-60 seconds to enter the code before the alarm actually goes off. Ignoring the beeping, the receptionist continues on to unlock the inner double door. The other patent jokingly says, \”You need to hurry up, the police are going to show up,\” with a smile. \”Don\’t worry\” reassures the receptionist, \”The alarm isn\’t even hooked up to anything!\” she says with a laugh. I just stood there, shaking my head, wondering how many other patients knew this secret. I\’d wager a bet the owner doesn\’t know his illusion is up.

So what is the moral to these stories? Don\’t settle on illusions and buy the real products? Not necessarily, even the fake security measures are viable to some extent. But make perfectly sure that your secret magic tricks are kept secret. As long as your illusions are still believable or unknown, your secret is safe. As well as your business or home.

It would be nice to believe that nothing will happen to you, but the reality of it is that an ounce of protection could be worth more than a pound of cure. What is Worth Protection to you? Your belongings? Your family? Your personal well-being?

Stay safe and be prepared!

Newest Information About Security Cameras

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

There is an increasing trend to use security cameras or a home security system and in fact that there is a constant need for information on the latest technology in this area. Now days, there are security cameras almost everywhere you go. In areas where these cameras are installed, there is often a drop in crime around that area or in that store or home. Thieves are less likely to commit their crimes if they know that they will end up being recorded on security cameras.

Home owners have picked up on the trend in security cameras and now more people are having cameras fitted. With more people having a home security system installed, the chances of their houses being broken into decrease.

There is a problem however, in that thieves soon find ways of disabling some security cameras and even home security systems, which means that there is a constant request for more up-to-date systems.

The latest research suggest that for those home owners who are concerned about the security of their home, good, strong locks are their first line of defense when it comes to protecting their home against break-ins.

The Home Safety Council, for example, recommends key in the doorknob locks, where a security key or card is used. They also recommend the use of vertical deadbolts. This is where bolts from the lock are slid up and down through a strike that is attached to the door post. The best deadbolts should have at least a one inch bolt and a hacksaw resistant steel pin.

At the same time that this information on locks is released, we also find that security is reaching a much higher level because the latest technology will allow people to monitor their homes from their cell phone. This means that wherever a person is, they are able to see what is going on in their own home by just pushing the buttons on their cell phone. Some people are concerned about hackers accessing the information because it is easy to access wirelessly transmitted data but technicians are working on this. Other home owners, particularly single parents, find it invaluable, especially if they do not have a complete home security system installed.

The very latest technology is state of the art security cameras and a complete home security system that is incorporated into a persons home entertainment equipment. At the touch of a button the home owner can see any room in the house or outside of the house. This system is available in a number of different packages, depending on your budget.

Nothing can make your home entirely burglar proof. There are things you can do, however, to increase the security of your home, as the above information shows.

CCTV - 10 Reasons Why You Should Have a CCTV Security System

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Closed-circuit television is a kind of a security technique which involves the usages of video camera which are commonly called CCTV cameras. The purposes of these are to transmit a signal to TV sets or monitors for the purpose of security. CCTV is a lot different than broadcast television. It differs in that the signal is not openly transmitted.

CCTV systems employ point to point wireless links, often used for surveillance. These Camera security systems are used in areas which need security. Some examples can be banks, casinos, airports, shopping malls or military installations, army bases etc. However, the increased use of CCTV in public places has caused debate over public. It is argued that this is a debate on security versus privacy. In many industries and industrial plants and semi-industrial plants, these cameras are used to observe parts of processes that are remote. The control is through a control room. Continuous operation of CCTV systems could be done. They can also be used to overview just a specific portion or an area. \r The first CCTV system was installed at Test Stand VII. It was in Peenemnde in the country of Germany in the year 1942.

These CCTV cameras were installed for observing the launch and take off of V2 rockets. CCTV systems are often used at launch. They are used at these sites to record the flight of the rockets. This is helpful in order to find the possible causes of malfunctions if any, happening during the launch. Film cameras are also used for this purpose. The more large rockets are often installed with camera systems. They allow pictures of stage separation to be transmitted back to earth by radio linkages. CCTV systems are also used to observe the launch pad, before the launch. This is none especially when no other person can be there, because of safety hazards and other safety reasons.\r The industrial process nowadays is mostly supervised by security cameras. There are some processes which are harmful for the humans but still take place. These cameras are mainly used in chemical industies. The other processes include the interior of reactors, facilities for manufacture of nuclear fuel etc. Use of Thermo graphic Cameras are used which permit operators to measure the temperature of the processes also.

The usage of of these systems in such processes is sometimes made mandatory by law.\r CCTV cameras are also used outside government offices and other special government facilities. CCTV systems are a very good means of increasing security in banks. CCTV today has developed to that point where it is very simple and inexpensive enough to be used as home security systems also.\r CCTV security systems are the next big thing on the general security scene, they have already overtaken all other means of security including spy cameras. CCTV cameras are and will continue to develop into the greatest security solutions available worldwide. CCTV security systems, CCTV security solutions would be buzz words in deciding about even security of small and very tiny enterprises. After all, with prices falling everyday, CCTV is much more affordable today than it was earlier.

How To Use An Intercom System As A Complete Home Security Solution

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

The modern intercom system can be more than an effective way to communicate with people throughout your home. There are many systems on the market that offer additional features that provide both convenience and security. More and more people are looking at ways of improving their home security and for good reason, as the population increases so does the crime rate which is a fact of life that we cannot afford to ignore.

When combined with an entry video camera and monitor visitors can be screened before you open the door and you can speak to them from the control station inside your home before deciding whether or not to let them in. Aside from the security this offers you, the convenience of not having to leave what you are doing to answer the door, particularly if you work from a home office or have trouble getting around makes the investment in an Intercom System worthwhile.

Many other features can also be incorporated into an intercom system that can transform it into a complete home alarm system. Window sensors, glass breakage sensors, motion sensors, smoke alarms and alarm sirens can all be configured to operate through the intercom control station. The window sensors can be set so that you can have the windows partially open for ventilation but if the window is forced open any further the contacts separate and the alarm is triggered.

For the ultimate in home security add back to base monitoring for your system and if the alarm is triggered a security patrol, police or fire service will be sent to your address to investigate. For home owners with pets there are motion detectors which use passive infrared technology which helps to prevent false alarms from roaming pets. The infrared beam can be set high enough to allow pets to move around but the beam will still be interrupted by an intruder moving around.

As a basic set up an intercom offers efficient communication between people in your home, but if home security is what you are after look for a system that can accommodate additional features and functions. Most of these systems can be added to as your budget allows and some of the additional components can be bought in a wireless configuration making installation a breeze. If you are having a home built and are thinking that an intercom system would be a good inclusion now is the time to make your decision as installation is a lot easier before any wall and ceiling sheeting is done if you opt for a complete system.

You\’ll Feel Safer With The Right Home Security System

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

We all would like to think of our homes as safe from the outside world. But of course, we cant help but worry. We hear about break-ins and kidnappings in the news and we wonder if our possessions and our loved ones have enough protection at home. One way to keep from worrying is to set up a home security system.

You will find that there are many types of home security systems to choose from. Look for one that can be customized to fit your lifestyle. Consider what you want to protect. Do you have small children or pets at home? Make sure the security system you choose will account for that.

There are three basic types of home security systems: stand-alone alarms, wireless alarm systems, and hard-wired alarm systems. The first two types are home alarm systems that you can buy from a hardware store or home center, and then set up yourself in your home. The third type, the hard-wired alarm system, can only be installed by a professional serviceman.

Almost all home security systems have a control panel installed. You, the homeowner, can disarm the alarm by entering a personal PIN code on the control panel. Now, if the code is not punched into the control panel before a set time limit expires, the alarm will go off. When it is activated, the alarm will also notify either an alarm monitoring company or the local police station.

This is one more important factor to consider when shopping for a home security system. Check with your local police department to see if they will accept automatic calls from home alarm systems. If they do not, you will have to employ a security system company, which can mean additional costs. However, one advantage of a security company is that they can advise you on which home security system may best fit your needs. They may also offer leasing options for some security systems.

Finally, you should take the age of your home into consideration when choosing your home security system. It is a lot easier to wire a home alarm system on a house that is still being built, while it is a frame. However, if you possess an historic home, or a home that offers difficult access, then your best option is likely to be a wireless system.

Home Security System Advice

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Home security is about safeguarding your home, family and possessions and there is no better way to provide for the safety of your family than with a full home security system.

New technologies have created a whole new generation of home security products that allow you to live more safely, comfortably, and economically. Modern home security systems boast state of the art wireless technologies, 24 hour monitoring, smoke detection and a host of value added services including emergency call, medic alert, vehicle response and more. While this is great protection for the family home, with such a vast array of home security products available its often difficult to gage your individual home security needs. My advice consult a security expert. Not a smooth talking technology salesman, but a licensed security installer who is prepared to come out to your property, conduct a thorough security appraisal and then work with you to find a home security system that fits both your needs and budget.

Home security is more than a big dog, or a loud alarm, or a high tech electronic gate and CCTV monitored driveway system. As every house has its own natural security strengths and weaknesses there is no one security system or security plan that fits all properties. It is for this reason that a quality home security system needs to be custom designed to suit your property.

There are many reputable companies who sell proven, sophisticated home security systems but without a proper appraisal of your home security vulnerabilities and an awareness of the range of home security product options available today you could be selling yourself short on both protection and cash.

The money you save not by utilizing the planning services of a specialist security consultant/installer is quickly lost when your home security system is breached. You can replace items but never the sentiment attached to the original, so be smart and use a professional licensed home security planner and installer.

Hurricane Kirk is a Real Jerk

Monday, October 20th, 2008

The question of the day is when will this 2006 Atlantic tropical hurricane season end? Well, as expected the 2006 Atlantic tropical hurricane season started early. And as we saw last year with the 2005 record-breaking Atlantic tropical hurricane season, it lasted all the way through the new year with a last-minute hurricane out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Will we give the repeat in 2006? Will we run into the Greek alphabet too?

The global warming club is now saying that every hurricane season in the future will get worse and worse due to the rising temperatures of the ocean surface. Tropical depression and later tropical storm Kirk grew very fast and now it is a full-fledged category one hurricane with the potential to grow. We have already seen more hurricane and we wanted to so far this season and the season is barely half over still.

The Caribbean islands have taken the lot of hard Hits and have been subject to massive flooding; is this the Natalie Holloway revenge? God only knows, but we humans know that Mother Nature is boss and we are merely guests on the surface of this planet. Best advice is to stay tuned to the weather Channel and listen to authorities if they tell you to evacuate you and your family. Hurricane Kirk might be jerk, but he might also be a big bad jerk. Consider this 2006.
